A Reflection On My Journey to Haiti

In the summer of 2012, I was given the amazing opportunity to go on a medical mission trip to Haiti. Before the trip, I was so excited and a little nervous because I did not know what to expect. As I embarked on my journey, I had no idea how life changing this trip was going to be. While in Haiti, we held 5 free clinic in indigenous areas of Haiti. In total we were able to treat 2,388 individuals and provide medication for at least 700 more.

As soon as I stepped off the plane and traveling into the airport in Port au Prince, I knew that I would never look at life in the same way again. While driving through the streets I began to cry at what I saw. For them, it was a normal way of life and their home; for me, it was dirt and rubble.

Going to Haiti, even for only 10 days, changed my view on the world. I now look at the world with a new perspective and appreciation. I now hope to travel back to Haiti as often as I can and continue making a difference for as many people as possible in my lifetime.
